European equities recover in midday session

European equity indices succeed in changing direction on Tuesday after series of data releases pushed shares back up. Germany's Merkel and Greece's Samaras will later meet in Berlin.

    By Ladislav Jakab
    Jan 08, 2013 - 11:21 AM GMT

London - European stock markets bounced back from red territory on Tuesday after remarks leaked from Berlin where Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras meets with German Chancellor Angela Merkel today. Earlier, German trade balance data failed to deliver a silver lining to the overall gloomy sentiment as investors mood is shaped by the ongoing global crisis.

In terms of earning season reports, profit of companies has been harmed by weak growth and poor global demand alongside the continuing US fiscal cliff threat.

The Pan European Euro Stoxx 50 stock index was traded 0.26% higher at 2,702.50 points on Tuesday at 11:21am GMT. The French benchmark CAC 40 gained 0.45%, meanwhile the German DAX was trading up 0.05% as of 11:21am GMT.

Outside of the Eurozone, the UK FTSE 100 index edged up by 0.11% as of 11:21am GMT.

In Berlin, government chiefs of Germany and Greece discuss the progress of Greece in implementing the measures requested by its international creditors in return for bailout funding. Prior to the meeting, Samaras suggested that Greece was on track with its obligations. "The glass is half-full. We are delivering and Europe is helping," Samaras said.

Despite the German trade balance reaching a surplus of €17 billion in November, compared with €15.7 billion in October, the reading revealed that exports of Europe's biggest economy suffer due to the debt crisis spreading over the region. Both imports and exports declined over the month, when sales abroad slumped 3.4%, the steepest decline in more than a year.

Trade deficit in France narrowed to €4.334 billion in November, down from €4.710 billion recorded in the previous month. The deficit for the last twelve months stands at €65.8 billion.

Further, the unemployment rate in Italy remained unchanged during November compared to a month ago, standing at 11.1%, the National Institute of Statistics, Istat, said on Tuesday. The reading was slightly down from estimations of 11.2%.

First signs of the Q4 earnings season report hints that corporate profit for the period is likely to show just weak growth, as companies in the US suffered due to the fiscal cliff threat and global demand is far from being healthy. Investors in the US decided to take some of the risk off the table. The markets across Europe may join the sell out based on the gloomy earnings outlook.

    Guys,

I wish I had spotted the Monkey at it earlier. When I first saw the Monkey doing his thing, the price was at 12.55.
I saw him throwing down in double-digit lots...12.55...all the way to 12.51. That perked me up and I stopped eating
my ta pau lunch to study the Intraday Time & Sales and saw the Monkey's footprints all over the place. That's when
I first posted I think the Monkey is in Ms Siti.

    Okay, here's the game plan.

    Very simple.

    EVERY BOUNCE IS A SHORT.

If there is a gap down tomorrow, I believe the price will recover.
But only to go down below the opening price during intraday.
So if there is a big gap-down, dont short first.
Wait for the recovery to come and go.
    Then do it.

I can only say this to my brothers here..................................WHO DARES, WINS !!! aa8.gif

    I added more Midas @ 0.465 today 8 Jan 2013.

Once the gap created on 4 Aug 2011, bet. 0.475 & 0.51 is closed convincingly with exceptional high volume; expect a big move from 0.51. :001_cool:

Tmr if STI hits below 3200 again; next target is 3155. :hammer:

Straits Times IndexExpect a pullback to 3155 if 3200 is broken

No. 3 — Prepare for a correction. It is due and can ignite anytime.

If 3200 is broken, I expect a pullback near the 20d SMA support at 3155.

The 3 banks, DBS, OCBC and UOB and properties stocks, CDL, Capitaland and GLP are main contributors to the pullback.

Est. date for the pullback to happen is on 20 Jan 2013.

CDLExtremely overbought; a bearish trend reversal is imminent

CDL closing with a black marubozu on 21 Dec 2012 is a decisive confirmation that the short-term uptrend has ended.

Expect CDL to pull back, interim TP:
    1st — 12.50
    2nd — 12.30
    3rd — 12.05

    CDL hit low of 12.43, high of 12.76 now trading 12.50 (-0.20, -1.6%) 8 Jan 2012 at 0425 hrs.

    CDL 1st TP 12.50 hit today! :smilielol5:

    STI broke 3200.

Expect the market to head lower in the coming days.
Then Fri afternoon will likely see a shortcovering recovery.

    Guys,

    12.52 : 12.53....your chance to short higher.
    Follow the price up.
    Hit 12.43....and then started recovering.....shortcovering, I guess.
Later will go back down again.
