The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that states have the right to collect sales taxes on internet companies that don't have an in-state physical presence. The ruling was 5-4. The Retail Industry Leaders Association said the court's decision "would give every retailer the opportunity to compete on a level playing field without government's thumb on the scale." Shares of Amazon dropped about 1% after the ruling was announced. The case is South Dakota vs. Wayfair .
